Agriculture Ministry hosts open organic food day
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management organized Saturday an Open Organic Food Day thus launching a campaign on the importance of this kind of food and also as a sector in agriculture.
"Thus far, the area intended for organic production was 1.370 hectares. Right after introducing measures for support of this kind of production, the areas in Macedonia have been expanded up to 5.300 hectares. It is a solid confirmation that all the policies implemented in relation to organic production have been fruitful. At the same time, this sector is vital because over 90% of the overall organic production is intended to be exported," Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Ljupco Dimovski said.
The objective, he added, is to promote organic production in this manner to Macedonian consumers.
Minister of Education and Science Spiro Ristovski, who attended the event together with ministers Gordana Jankuloska and Nikola Poposki, said they wanted to endorse the Agriculture Ministry's initiative on intensifying the use of organic food.
"The Education Ministry will be actively involved in promoting organic food not only to school children, but also to their parents. The ministry will join forces with other ministries, namely with the Health Ministry, to prepare special standards and protocols involving the preparation of healthy meals in schools," noted Ristovski.
Since 2006, the Agriculture Ministry has been committed to the development of organic production in Macedonia. Measures for support and promotion of this agricultural sector are constantly created. Each year, the ministry organizes events in a bid to promote organic production.
