PM Gruevski meets OSCE Representative on Media Freedom

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski held talks Tuesday with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovic.

Macedonia’s Government is ready to keep contributing to advancing the standards of media. Endorsing of amendments to the laws on media and audio- and audio-visual media services is a significant step to that effect, Gruevski told Mijatovic.

The main objective of these amendments is to ensure, stimulate the advancement of audio- and audio-visual media services, independent production, the culture of public dialogue in terms of fostering, protecting the creative work, freedom, educational and scientific development, Gruevski said.

Welcoming the adoption of new bills, she qualified as rather solid, Mijatovic urged for their implementation, which ‘depends on the will, capacity and readiness of all stakeholders involved in the process.’

Mijatovic also announced that Macedonian capital Skopje would host the regional media conference.
