Macedonia, Bulgaria seek EC support for joint projects
Republic of Bulgaria and Republic of Macedonia will intensify efforts for promotion of good neighborly relations and cooperation, including through projects and initiatives of practical value not only for both countries, but also for the entire region, reads the joint letter of countries' Foreign Ministers Kristian Vigenin and Nikola Poposki respectively to Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule and Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn.
"Both sides hold in high esteem the opportunities provided by the European Commission in strengthening the partnership through programmes for territorial cooperation, aimed towards a stronger and sustainable economic and social development of regions, thus stimulating their potential", reads the letter.
The FMs affirm the countries' readiness to expand contacts among competent institutions in securing better coordination and implementation of joint projects in areas such as infrastructure, economy and improvement of the general regional networking.
"We believe the existing projects should be given priority, aimed towards development of road and railway infrastructure, with a special emphasis on Corridor 8 (East-West)", say Vigenin and Poposki, adding that allocation of larger financial assistance for completion of these projects is crucial.
