Musical culture to be improved with new projects, says Kanceska-Milevska

Realization of an array of new projects aimed at enriching the country's musical offer, presentation and support for everything deemed as artistic value in Macedonia, including strong international promotion of a number of activities realized by the Ministry of Culture were some of the topics discussed Monday at a working meeting between Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska and the president of the Composers' Association of Macedonia (SOKOM), Soni Petrovski.

"The Ministry has established excellent cooperation with SOKOM. I think that with such an interactive meeting we can accomplish a lot in the field of classical music. The Ministry through joint projects, due to be launched as SOKOM initiatives, can support the improvement of Macedonia's musical culture," Kanceska-Milevska said.

Furthermore, the Minister congratulated SOKOM - the oldest and biggest organization of composers in Macedonia - on organizing the second awards ceremony dubbed "Virtuoso", held last week.

SOKOM is set to realize several activities in the coming period, she informed.

"Preparations are under way for several SOKOM manifestations and concerts, including the Days of Macedonian Music, set to take place on April 3-14. A new festival of electronic music is going to be promoted at the festival," Kanceska-Milevska said.

Those composers, she added, who are members of the association with support from the Ministry will hold several concerts of Macedonian music in Serbia, Russia and the Netherlands.

Participants in the meeting also discussed the four-year program supporting classical music production aimed at stimulating the creation of at least 50 compositions a year.
