Huge interest for Skopje gasification, says Minister Janakieski
Many companies are interested in the project for construction of a natural gas distribution network in the Skopje region. The gas pipeline network, estimated at Euro 100 million, will be built according to the principle of public-private partnership.
"There's huge interest. All of our economic promoters and embassies are engaged in stimulating the companies. I expect a large number of companies to file applications in a bid to qualify in the second road i.e. to present a financial offer," Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski stated Wednesday ahead of the presentation of the gasification project at the Economic Chamber of Macedonia.
A 20-year concession will be awarded and it is expected a contract to be signed by year's end. The concessioner in a period of four years will be required to build 70% of the distribution network in the region covering 17 municipalities.
Analyses show that the gasification is a profitable investment, both for households and the business sector. Costs will be cut by one third as the investment will be paid back up to three years.
The Skopje region is the first out of the three regions in Macedonia where gas distribution infrastructure will be built.
