FM Poposki: Macedonia expects Greece to respect ICJ ruling

As NATO and the international community appeal for respecting the international law in regard to the Ukraine crisis and Russia's annexation of Crimea, Macedonia takes advantage of the moment to call for abiding to the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which says that Greece must not object to the country's accession to the Alliance, MIA correspondent reports from Brussels.

Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki discussed the matter Wednesday with his NATO colleagues at the sidelines of the ISAF format meeting, which reviewed the Alliance's continued support to Afghanistan until the end of this year, through the ISAF, as well as after 2014, through the new Resolute Support mission to train, advise and assist Afghan security forces.

Addressing the gathering, Poposki reaffirmed Macedonia's readiness to take active part in NATO led post-2014 Resolute Support mission for building a stable, safe future for Afghanistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.

My colleagues acknowledged that Macedonia met NATO membership criteria long time ago, saying however that the country must eliminate the last and most serious hurdle, imposed by one of the Alliance's members, Poposki told MIA after his bilateral talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry and Croatia's FM Vesna Pusic.

Macedonia wishes for that member to also start respecting the rule of law, so that together we can continue to cooperate within NATO, Poposki said.

This September Britain will host the NATO Summit, which is expected to inter alia tackle the organization's enlargement. Macedonia and Montenegro top the list of candidates for full-fledged NATO membership.
