Jankuloska: Campaign held in peaceful, fair and democratic atmosphere

MoI's operational election headquarters are fully functional and has been acting accordingly in relation to all the activities involving the presidential elections, stated Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska after Friday's meeting at the operational headquarters ahead of the start of a campaign for the early parliamentary polls.

The pre-election period has been peaceful with fair and democratic atmosphere prevailing during the campaign, according to MoI estimations.

"With the launch of the campaign for parliamentary elections this Saturday, we are changing the organization because the parliamentary polls require MoI to boost its scope of activities. In a bid to cover the whole territory of Macedonia in an equal manner, MoI's entire structure will be put into function to enable peaceful elections," Jankuloska said.

Seven thousand police officers have received trainings for the election process, the minister mentioned.

67 rallies and 33 meetings with citizens were held as part of the activities related to the presidential campaign. Nearly 115 thousand citizens attended these events, according to MoI estimations, with 800 police officers providing security.

"We've managed to cover all organized events, which were held in a peaceful atmosphere. There were no disruptions of public order and peace during the presidential campaign and no incidents were reported," Jankuloska stressed.

In addition to the main operational headquarters for 2014 elections, regional operational headquarters have been also set up as part of the sectors for internal affairs.
