Minister Janakieski at conference for SEE transport network development
Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski addressed the 7. South East Europe Transport Observatory (SEETO) Annual Meeting of Ministers, held Tuesday in Antwerp, Belgium.
Minister Janakieski presented Macedonia's progress and future plans over the development of transport infrastructure along the European corridors, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said in a press release.
He stressed that Macedonia is actively involved in the SEETO activities, contributing to the strengthening of good neighborly and friendly relations with regional states, focusing on the enhancement of regional cooperation.
Janakieski also presented Macedonia's activities towards modernization of Corridors 8 and 10, through investments for improvement of the infrastructure quality.
"This year was very successful for us, because we moved closed to achieving the main strategic objective of making the corridors a true transport artery of the region. We have completed the construction of a road section within Corridor 10 and fully modernized the two airports in Macedonia, investments worth about EUR 240 million", emphasized Janakieski.
According to him, investments in the development of railway transport as "ecological transport" is the country's strategic goal and long-term commitment.
"Therefore, one of the main efforts of the Macedonian Government is completion of railway link east-west, i.e. linking the Ionian and Black seas through the completion of Corridor 8 sections. We are certain this is one of the projects that will mark this decade. In this regard, we would appreciate EU's support in the achievement of this regional strategic objective", underlined Minister Janakieski in the meeting address.
