Gruevski-CY Leung: Macedonia, Hong Kong to improve business ties

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski held talks Thursday with Leung Chun-ying - the incumbent Chief Executive and President of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, which is part of the People's Republic of China.

The talks focused on ways to improve cooperation in the sphere of economy, international trade and cooperation in relation to investments and to establish cooperation in other areas of joint interest.

The two interlocutors pledged in the coming period efforts to be made to strengthen relations and cooperation between the parties and between entrepreneurs in Macedonia and Hong Kong.

Moreover, PM Gruevski presented the reforms being implemented to create a positive business climate in Macedonia and the conditions offered by the country to foreign investors for opening a business in Macedonia.

The interlocutors also focused on opportunities to establish cooperation in education i.e. scholarships for students and in the film industry considering the prolific film industry in Hong Kong, the Government's press service said in a press release.

"We've had an opportunity to share views on several issues and to discuss several contracts that could be signed to boost our economic ties with Hong Kong. We've also discussed the documents on double taxation avoidance and on investment protection. Other areas opening possibilities for collaboration, such as tourism and film industry, have been also covered," PM Gruevski stated after the meeting.

Hong Kong's Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying positively assessed the reforms implemented in Macedonia to improve the local business climate extending support for improving the economic cooperation. Moreover, he pointed out the benefits of cooperation between businessmen from Macedonia and Hong Kong.

"From the premier's visit to Hong Kong and from our talks I have had the chance to hear about the opportunities offered to businessmen from Hong Kong and Hong Kong-based businesses for cooperation with Macedonian entrepreneurs. Hong Kong is an open economy and we call on the Macedonian businessmen to cooperate as Hong Kong businessmen have an open mind to collaborate with foreign partners," Leung Chun-ying said after the meeting.

Macedonia's government delegation is resuming its visit by organizing a business forum in Hong Kong.
