Macedonian doctors to be trained at Hong Kong Queen Mary Hospital

Macedonian doctors and medical staff will be trained and educated at the Hong Kong Queen Mary Hospital. This has been agreed Thursday by Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski at the meeting with hospital’s management team.

Queen Mary Hospital (QMH) is the flagship teaching hospital in Hong Kong. Countries' expert teams in the following period will define spheres of medicine concerning the training of Macedonian doctors and procedures for realisation of the cooperation.

We hope that their doctors and medical staff will also visit Macedonia and transfer their knowledge and new skills, Gruevski said after the meeting in Hong Kong.

QMH management team positively sees the future cooperation and expects to share knowledge and experience with Macedonian doctors and medical staff.

I think that there are many options for the Macedonian doctors to expand their knowledge and to come here in Hong Kong and to share our experiences aimed at using opportunities for cooperation in the future, Dr. Lee Choi, manager of the hospital said.

QMH provides general medical and surgical services and is a tertiary referral centre for the whole territory of Hong Kong and beyond. It has 5.000 medical staff of whom 1.500 doctors. It also serves as a territory-wide tertiary and quaternary referral centre for many complex and advanced services, including organ and bone marrow transplants, neonatal intensive care, pediatric surgery, assisted reproduction, coronary care, oral maxillofacial surgery, burns and reconstructive surgery and neurosurgery.

Hong Kong's Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying positively assessed the reforms implemented in Macedonia to improve the local business climate extending support for improving the economic cooperation. Moreover, he pointed out the benefits of cooperation between businessmen from Macedonia and Hong Kong.

"From the premier's visit to Hong Kong and from our talks I have had the chance to hear about the opportunities offered to businessmen from Hong Kong and Hong Kong-based businesses for cooperation with Macedonian entrepreneurs. Hong Kong is an open economy and we call on the Macedonian businessmen to cooperate as Hong Kong businessmen have an open mind to collaborate with foreign partners," Leung Chun-ying said after the meeting.

Macedonia's government delegation is resuming its visit by organizing a business forum in Hong Kong.
