Kanceska-Milevska attends UNESCO World Forum on Culture and Cultural Industries

Preservation not destruction, constructive and not destructive approach, unity and mutual respect – are the fundamental principles of culture which should be respected by all of us, Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska said at the third UNESCO World Forum on Culture and Cultural Industries taking place in Florence, Italy.

Addressing the panel discussion she underlined that it is inspirational and stimulating for such a global and up-to-date topic as it is culture and its sustainable development to be debated in Florence, which is one of the historical pillars of the Italian and the European culture.

The meaning of culture as factor of sustainable development and development in general is anticipated in real time and in real manner because today the mankind is faced with many developing, economic, social and humanitarian crisis. That’s why we need a broad dialogue of cultures, religions and civilization, something that is nourished with special attention in our country, the Republic of Macedonia, where three UNESCO World Conference on Inter-Religious and Inter-Civilization Dialogue were held in the last decade, Kanceska-Milevska said.

The development of culture in Macedonia is directly proportional with the development of the state, Kanceska-Milevska said at the panel discussion which was also attended by Macedonian Ambassador to Italy Oliver Shambevski.

Macedonian Government is following the culture and culture-related processes with great attention in the past period with due respect towards our artistic values and rich cultural heritage, and invested huge energy in its improvement and development, Kanceska-Milevska said adding that state budget is increased for culture in the last years.

In regard to international cooperation she pointed out that the cultural policy of the Republic of Macedonia is unique and open and in function to overall social development.

The third edition of the Forum taking place from Oct. 2 to 4 is devoted to the theme “Culture, Creativity and Sustainable Development. Research, Innovation, Opportunities” and is organized in cooperation with the Italian Government and with the support of the Tuscany Region and the Municipality of Florence.

The event brings together governmental decision-makers, representatives of the private sector and civil society, including international experts and academics from all regions of the world.
