All those behaving in a such a way that they prevent the people from deciding in whom to put their trust and making attempts to take away the enshrined democratic right to vote in elections from them – irrespective of whether it is enabled by shying away from elections, which is by now most certainly being done by our political opponents – or all those using all means possible to avoid elections, are making an unprincipled and unethical deed that is as same as insulting the people,” Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said Monday.

By acting in such a manner, he stressed, the political opponent is demonstrating a lack of confidence in its own capacities and a lack of adequate care for the national and state interests of the Republic of Macedonia.

“Elections must be held and elections will be held. Macedonia is our country… The people will decide and the people must decide, there is no other choice and no running away from it,” PM Gruevski said in his speech delivered at an academy marking St. Clement of Ohrid Day (Dec. 8).

In politics, as in any other profession, morale, principles and values must prevail, according to him. “Politics is not an isolated matter, it is equally related to all other issues and it has to be an example of correct conduct.”

“The body of work left as a testimony by St. Clement of Ohrid guides us towards top ethical values and principles – to own a personal and professional integrity, to be responsible because every acquired right requires accountability,” Gruevski stated emphasizing that the responsibility of the government was to serve the people in the best possible way and to treat common interests with utmost responsibility.

“May we follow the hardworking ethics of (St. Clement of Ohrid), his commitment to performing tasks and engaging in endeavors. May we think of our pledges and his expectations…This significance of the St. Clement of Ohrid Day gives us a good example of how we, the politicians, should act in our relations with each other and in our relations with the people,” urged Gruevski.
