Three protective zones and controlled urbanization determined in Draft-Plan for Natural and Cultural Heritage Management in Ohrid Region

Today the Minister without Portfolio, in charge of Diaspora, Edmond Ademi and president of the UNESCO National Commission, together with the mayor of Ohrid, Konstantin Georgievski, State Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, Ana Petrovska and Zoran Pavlov from the Administration for Protection of Cultural Heritage, held a joint briefing for the journalists and presented the activities and progress in the implementation of recommendations issued by UNESCO and concerning the Ohrid region. 

 

Minister Ademi underlined that the Government seriously intensifies the process of implementation of UNESCO’s recommendations and that they are being implemented in pursuance with the foreseen time frame. 

“We are intensifying our communication with UNESCO, on both political and expert level, something that has been missing for years. The Draft-Plan for Natural and Cultural Heritage Management in the Ohrid Region, as well as the study for assessment of its impact,  are in their final phase. The Plan, following a transparent process, will be available for the public on the websites of the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning and the municipalities Ohrid and Struga for a period of 60 days”, informed Ademi. 

Minister Ademi emphasized that the Budget of the Republic of North Macedonia has 50 million denars for the Public Enterprise “Kolektorski system” for this fiscal year, as well as an additional 88 million for financing of the debts of the Public Enterprise “Proakva” which has managed the collector so far. 

The State Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, Ana Petrovska, informed of the activities related to establishing inter-sector Council for Joint Management of Natural and Cultural Heritage in the Ohrid Region. 

Moreover, Petrovska underlined the Draft-Plan for Natural and Cultural Heritage Protection in the Ohrid Region which is harmonized with the municipalities of Ohrid and Struga and which introduces three protection zones and establishing controlled urbanization immediately after the adoption of the Law on Urban Planning which is already in procedure in the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia.
