FM Poposki, Ambassadors of Balkan countries to Macedonia discuss EU-integration process
Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki had a working meeting Tuesday with the Ambassadors of Albania, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia to Macedonia.
The meeting was aimed at presenting Macedonia's activities within the EU-integration and sharing opinions on the bilateral, regional cooperation in regard to the integration process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
Poposki informed his guests about the launching of Macedonia-European Commission high-level dialogue on March 15 in a presence of Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule.
"The accession dialogue is a new platform for cooperation and in-depth debate with the Commission on significant topics related to the Copenhagen Criteria -- the rule of law, public administration, media, election process and functional market economy. The dialogue will last until the launch of pre-accession negotiations with the EU, which remains Macedonia's priority, and we shall continue to focus our efforts to that end," Poposki said.
Poposki underlined the importance of the region's EU perspective and congratulated the Ambassadors on their countries' achievements on the road to the EU membership, saying that the success of each state is also an acomplishment for the entire region.
Macedonia, as thus far, will keep playing proactive and constructive role in advancing the bilateral, regional cooperation in the spirit of good-neighbourly relations and friendship, Poposki said. In this respect he mentioned that Macedonia would take over the Presidency of the South East European Co-operation Process (SEECP) this June.
The Ambassadors hailed the excellent relations with Macedonia, and in that respect the support and cooperation in the EU-integration process. They consider that Macedonia, which has been dealing with the (integration) proces' stalemate for a longer period of time in spite of meeting the necessary criteria and positive recommendations, should promptly start the EU accession talks, the press release reads.
They believe that it will not only bolster the overall development of Macedonia, but also strongly encourage other countries to keep on with reforms towards the EU membership, as well as substantially contribute to the peace, stability and economic prosperity of the entire region.
