The Government has announced its strong and ambitious agenda involving construction and restoration of local and regional roads. At least 76 local roads with total length of 176 kilometers and an investment of 15 million euros and four regional highways with total length of 74 kilometers in amount of over 10 million euros will be realized by the end of 2012.

This was stated on Saturday by government's spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgiev at a press conference. He said that in July, 25 local roads measuring 54 km and an investment of 4.54 million euros will be built, in August - 26 local roads with total length of 62 km worth 4.78 million euros, in September - eight local roads measuring about 19 km in amount of 1.11 million euros, in October - 10 local roads up to 25 km and an investment of 2.26 km and in November - seven local roads measuring 16 km in amount of 1.56 million euros.

Furthermore, Gjorgiev said 32 new local roads in the regions of Pelagonija, Polog and Skopje and in southwestern Macedonia are planned to be built.

He urged mayors to submit their projects in the Agency for State Roads in order to be considered in the program for construction, reconstruction and maintenance of local roads.

"Roads are being built all over Macedonia in all municipalities regardless of the political, ethnic or religious background of the mayor or citizens living in the municipality. We will continue making rational and constructive efforts in the interest of the citizens," the government spokesman said, adding: "This Government is the first one that has strongly focused on this crucial sector of local and regional network by realizing several hundreds of kilometers of local and regional roads. It will continue its activities in the future as well."
