Gov't spokesman: Euro 5.5 mln for rural development, procurement of mechanisation and canal cleaning
The government will make a payment of 5.5 million euros to support the development of villages, to purchase agricultural mechanization and to clean canals, government spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgiev told a news conference on Sunday.
He elaborated that 2 million euros will be paid for the support of villages in Macedonia, i.e. 45 concrete projects will be realized in 37 municipalities. They include construction of rural roads less than one kilometer long, rural bridges, accessible roads to agricultural land and for urbanization of the centers of villages.
Farmers will be financed while purchasing mechanization with three million euros no later than October. 50% of the costs will be covered through co-financing.
The process of cleaning irrigation and drainage canals will be launched this week in the regions of Skopje, Pelagonija, Strumica, Kocani and Polog, for which half a million euros will be singled out, according to the spokesman.
"Agriculture will be also actively supported in the future through series of measures and activities in an attempt to improve overall conditions for farmers," Gjorgiev concluded.
