FM Poposki: Increased communication for enhanced cooperation between neighbors
Increased communication on a ministerial or any other political level can only enhance trust and opportunities for larger cooperation between neighboring countries, said Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki on Monday.
"When we speak of good neighborly relations, the first thing on our minds is sincerity, openness, open communication. In this context, I would say that visits of foreign ministers or officials from neighboring countries is something we should work on, so that they reflect the excellent communication between citizens and businesses. This should specifically refer to the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria. In any case, I do not believe there is anything negative in increased communication. On the contrary, enhanced communication can only increase the degree of trust and opportunities for future cooperation", FM Poposki told reporters regarding the statement of Bulgarian counterpart Nikolay Mladenov on occasion of the invitation to visit Macedonia, saying there is no need for talks, but actions.
Pertaining to Mladenov's proposal over changes in Macedonia's history instruction books, Poposki said history should be left to the historians.
"I believe we have reached certain consent over the thesis that history should be left to the historians. I believe that if we abide by this principle, we can secure the best degree of cooperation", he added.
Poposki met today with foreign honorary consuls to the Republic of Macedonia, focusing on stimulation of cooperation and establishment of an association of honorary consulates, which could contribute to Macedonia's promotion.
"This especially refers to the country's promotion as an excellent destination for foreign investments and tourists, as well as its export potentials", emphasized FM Poposki.
