Promotion of 44 new titles of 'Stars of World Literature' edition
New 44 titles of 'Stars of the World Literature' edition were promoted Tuesday in the Macedonian Academy of Science are Art (MANU).
The Government's project, which includes the best works of world's literature, is a huge step to establishing Macedonia as a state that respects, affirms global literary values and their contribution to development of civilization in general.
As a result of the hard work of many writers, academicians, professors, translators and proofreaders, this year we have started to promote the first titles of this project, namely 55 in July and 44 today, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said at the promotion.
The four-year Government's project will publish a total of 560 best works of the world literature translated in Macedonian language.
Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska said most of the titles, promoted today, had not been translated into Macedonian language thus far. Publishing of these books will enable citizens to get familiar with the master pieces of the world literature, she added.
Translation of these books into Macedonian means that nobody can ever deny the language and thus the people speaking it and the country they live in, which 'is the higher goal of this edition,' said the project's committee chair, Mitko Mandzukov.
The project, which aims to bring the gems of world literature to Macedonia's readers, includes the literary trends of Ancient East, Greek & Roman periods, middle age, renaissance, baroque & classicism, pre-romanticism, romanticism, realism and the 20th century.
