FM Poposki meets Director of Switzerland's Federal Office for Migration
Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki met Tuesday with the Director of the Swiss Federal Office for Migration, Mario Gattiker, who is paying a working visit to Macedonia.
At the meeting, both interlocutors welcomed the positive development and cooperation between Macedonia and Switzerland while discussing ways to enhance them in various fields of mutual interest, MoFA said in a press release.
FM Poposki said the government appreciated the support and aid provided by the Swiss Confederation for Macedonia through the financing of different projects, in particular in the field of environment, healthcare and education.
The two officials also discussed the abuse of the right for visa-free travel in the Schengen zone, including Switzerland, committed by a number of Macedonian citizens by seeking asylum in several European countries.
In this context, Mr. Poposki presented the government's efforts and measured aimed at curbing fake asylum seekers.
Director Gattiker welcomed the efforts made by the government to tackle the issue underscoring the need of permanent activities in this respect.
Talks also focused on Macedonia's aspirations to become a full-fledged member of EU and NATO, stated the press release.
