Registration of domain names liberalised
The citizens will be able to register Internet mk. domain name from any personal computer by receiving the service from eight companies-registrars. Up to now the Macedonian Academic and Research Network (MARNET) was the only holder of mk. domain.
The liberalisation allows the citizens not to address to MARNET for registering domain but they can receive it from authorised by MARNET Macedonian registrars, Minister of Informational Society and Administration Ivo Ivanovski said at Tuesday's press conference.
He said that the liberalisation will offer competitive prices. The service they pay to MARNET will remain the same but this does not mean that there is no room for its reduction aimed at offering additional content in the package.
Companies-registrars to domains connected to MARNET are Vertuvio, Ultranet, MK kost, NEXT EM, Tim Corporation, Process in, Marxum registry and Web global itc with their offices in Skopje, Kavadarci, Veles and Kumanovo.
Over 36.000 national domain names are registered at the moment in Macedonia and new legal entities on the market expect the liberalisation to enable their significant increase.
MARNET manager Saso Dimitrieski said that the liberalisation process required implementation of completely new system of connection with companies-registrars in order the process to be carried out automatically.
