Global Money Week in Macedonia

The celebration of the Global Money Week kicked off Monday by symbolic ring of the bell at the Macedonian Stock Exchange by Aleksandar Linin, the best student of secondary economic-law school "Vasil Antevski – Dren."

Thirty best students will be able to trade at virtual stock exchange and the best trader will be awarded with free training at the Macedonian Stock Exchange after a month of trading.

Deputy PM and Finance Minister Zoran Stavreski, National Bank Governor Dimitar Bogov and CEO of Macedonian Stock Exchange Ivan Steriev attended the event.

Stavreski said that everyone at different ages faces with the issue of financial means, their management and the most efficient way of how money works as well as financial problems. That’s why it is necessary to raise the level of financial education for all generations beginning with the children in primary education, Stavreski said.

Money management is the same responsibility as management with own health, the better you do it, the easier will be in your life and you will have less financial problems, Stavreski said.

He underlined that the Ministry of Finance will be included in the activities for financial education through a preparation of a brochure with a description of the financial sector in Macedonia, financial institutions and institutions that carry out their supervision.

CEO of Macedonian Stock Exchange Ivan Steriev said that one of the basic preconditions for increase of financial inclusion is improving the education of the youth and children and providing them with financial knowledge.

National Bank Governor Dimitar Bogov said that similar activities are taking place today in 17 other stock exchanges in the world among which are those in Paris, London, Berlin and Stockholm.

All this points out the great importance to financial education, especially to the youth because they should be prepared in the future to enter the market of workforce, to access the financial transactions and to make right decision based on the available information, Bogov said.

National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia will implement the Global Money Week with events in 20 schools in Macedonia aimed at brining closer to the youth the concepts and history of the money, monetary policy and everything important for correct education in the sphere of financial literacy.

Global Money Week is a global money awareness celebration that will take place between 10 March and 17 March 2014 to engage children worldwide in learning how money works, including saving, creating livelihoods, gaining employment, and entrepreneurship.
