Children require vaccines, physicians insist
Physicians in Macedonia consider that vaccines should be mandatory for all children. Information posted on Internet and social networks on possible health risks are absurd.
No serious reaction to vaccine has been registered in Macedonia since the introduction of immunization except for the expected cases of high temperature and rare convulsions, Jadranka Kostovska, national coordinator for immunization in the World Health Organization (WHO), told reporters on Saturday.
Medical experts claim that vaccines cannot be a cause of autism, diabetes, cancers… as their ingredients are not harmful to children’s health.
Parents should seek official information on immunization from international agencies and embrace advises of health workers, Kostovska said.
Chairman of Macedonian Doctor's Chamber Koco Cakalaroski is also a staunch supporter of children’s immunization. He points out that illnesses, which once killed thousands of infants annually, are now prevented by vaccination.
Health Minister Nikola Todorov said he was not an expert but he vaccinated his children. A motion filed by some parents to the Constitutional Court for an annulment of the mandatory vaccinations is not good, Todorov says.
"Such wrong moves may substantially weaken the collective immunity in the country and bring back already eradicated diseases... Macedonia's well-established mandatory immunization system must be protected," the Health Minister said.
