FINKI to get its own building, 3,000 students enrolled so far
A building for the Faculty of Information Sciences and Computer Engineering (FINKI) is expected to be built in 2015, it was announced on Monday.
There are two proposals as to where it should be build, however the decision and the design will be announced in due time, according to Minister of Education and Science Spiro Ristovski.
"The construction of a facility will begin as soon as possible and it will be one of the most modern buildings designed to meet the needs of the faculty and its numerous students," Ristovski told reporters at a ceremony marking FINKI's third anniversary.
Established in 2011, FINKI is a resumption of the IT Institute at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Institute of Computer Science and Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies.
Some 3,000 students have been enrolled so far. Eleven laboratories have been installed for scientific research as part of a government-run project for procurement of laboratories in educational institutions.
With 3,000 students, FINKI in the past three years recorded notable results, according to the faculty's dean Dimitar Trajanov. "700 students were enrolled in this academic year suggesting that the project for establishment of a separate faculty for IT and computer engineering is successful," he stated.
For deputy minister of information society and administration Marta Arsovska-Tomovska, FINKI is not just one of the most prestigious faculties in Macedonia, but it is also the driving force of the country's information society.
