Pesevski: Revitalization of hydroelectric power system nears its completion

By introducing the new technology in the revitalization of seven hydro-power stations in Macedonia, costs during production will be cut down and environment-friendly energy will be obtained, said Deputy PM for economic affairs Vladimir Pesevski.

On Friday, the Deputy PM visited Vrutok Hydro Power Plant to oversee the rehabilitation process of Mavrovo hydroelectric power system, which is nearing its completion.

"The Government of Macedonia has launched a series of projects in the energy sector with the project for revitalization of seven hydro power stations - Vrutok, Raven, Vrben, Shpilje, Tikves, Globocica and Kozjak - being one of the most important. Operations are under way in all stations with state-of-the art technologies to increase the production of electricity and boost the efficiency in water use," Pesevski said.

The revitalization project is estimated at nearly 33 million euros and is financed by the German KfW Bank and ELEM company.

After the project's completion, Macedonia will get additional 20 megawatts of installed power and 50 gigawatts hours of electricity, according to Pesevski.

"It means that 30 thousand households would be supplied with electricity... It is also significant that with this project so called green energy is going to be produced in the future," noted Pesevski.
