Macedonia, Serbia sign agreement on mutual recognition of driving licenses
The interior ministers of Serbia and Macedonia - Nebojsa Stefanovic and Gordana Jankuloska respectively - signed Friday in Belgrade an agreement on mutual recognition of the driving licenses of the citizens in both countries.
"This document enables citizens to cross the border between the two countries without any special procedures," Stefanovic told a news conference after meeting his Macedonian counterpart.
He elaborated that the deal needed to be ratified in Serbia's Parliament in order to enter into force voicing his hopes that it would be done in due course, Serbia's news agency Tanjug reports.
Minister Stefanovic noted that Serbia and Macedonia fostered good police cooperation taking tough measures to counter illegal migration and drug trafficking.
Minister Jankuloska said the agreement was of concrete significance for both countries, especially given the fact that many Serbian citizens travel through Macedonia when heading to tourist destinations.
She said police cooperation between the two countries served "as an excellent example of regional cooperation." "There are many areas which require such cooperation taking into consideration the challenges related to various types of crime in the region," Jankuloska stated.
