The world leaders attending the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly at its headquarters in New York today initiated the official part of the agenda according to which the focus this year is on the Climate Change Summit.
The Heads of State and Government and the members of their delegations came with a commitment to encourage actions for the protection of the planet stipulated in the Paris Agreement.
The President of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev and the Government Delegation comprised of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia in charge of European Affairs Bujar Osmani and the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Naser Nuredini will participate in the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and other forums where they will present and harmonize the national agendas for reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and other particles that deplete the ozone cover and pollute the air.
Tackling climate change as a main topic of the UN General Assembly this year is aimed at assisting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted in 2015, which will be further evaluated at another of the five Summits of the Assembly this year.
The activities of the Summit on Universal Access to Quality Health-Care Services likewise begin today at the UN headquarters in New York, which will be addressed by the Minister of Health Dr. Venko Filipche, and the activities of the Summit on Financing for Development will likewise be opened in the upcoming days.
Within the framework of the agenda for today, the President of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev will attend a special event organized by the United States Mission to the United Nations “Global Call to Protect Religious Freedoms”, at which the President of the United States Donald Trump is the keynote speaker.
The presence of the highest representatives of the UN Member States, Heads of State and Government will be used by the Delegation of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia for the attendance of more bilateral meetings and participation at more forums, conferences and other events on the side-lines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.
In the course of the day, Prime Minister Zaev and the members of the Government Delegation will have separate meetings with the Prime Minister of Estonia Juri Ratas and the Azerbaijani Delegation, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Novruz Mammadov.
