The President of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov within their activities of the side-lines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York met with the high representatives of the USA State Department, Assistant Secretary Philip Reeker and the special representative for the Western Balkans, Matthew Palmer.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Zaev emphasized that during this period, North Macedonia has been fully focused on the setting of the date for the opening of the EU accession negotiations in October, as well as on the progress in the ratification of the protocol for NATO accession. These are the strategic country goals for whose achievement the USA provided an immense contribution.
These goals for North Macedonia stem from the Strategic Partnership Agreement with the USA, in which the Euro-Atlantic integrations of the country are a high priority for securing the safety and stability of the country and the region.
The topic of deepening the commercial and economic collaboration between both countries was also raised, for which there is a high potential.
The representatives of the USA State Department, the Assistant General Secretary Phillip Reeker and the special representative for the Western Balkans, Mathew Palmer showed interest in the current political events in our country. They emphasized both their and the USA support for the implementation of the reforms, especially in the area of the legal state, the rule of law and the fight against corruption, as key issues so that the foreseen goal could be achieved-setting a date for opening the negotiations with the EU, which is of high interest for the USA too.
