Minister Ferati and Ambassador Axinte Discuss Community Rights and the Preservation of Vlach Culture

Minister Agon Ferati and the Ambassador of Romania, Adela Monica Axinte, held a friendly meeting to discuss the advancement of bilateral cooperation in protecting the rights of all communities in the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as preserving the traditions, language, culture, and heritage of the Vlach community in the country. The interlocutors highly praised the excellent bilateral relations developed over the years, the partnership between the two friendly countries and NATO allies, as well as Romania’s willingness to share its experience in the process of rapprochement with the European Union.

Minister Ferati briefed Ambassador Axinte on the work of the Ministry, including efforts to build trust, promote values, strengthen cooperation, and organize various activities, particularly those involving young people. He emphasized that, although he had assumed leadership of the Ministry only three months ago, visible progress had been made in several areas, including cooperation with the media, with the aim of reducing tensions and preventing hate speech.

The Romanian Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the Ministry’s work, while also voicing concern over the low number of Vlach students attending classes in their mother tongue, partly due to the limited number of teachers. Minister Ferati assured the Ambassador that the Ministry would welcome proposals from the Embassy of Romania, the Vlach community, and civil society, with the aim of encouraging Vlach children to learn their parents’ language and promoting the culture and traditions of this community.
